Position: Grants and Contracts Officer- Sponsored Program Administration

Job Summary

Grants and Contracts Officer – Sponsored Program Administration supports principal investigators, project managers, and faculty by providing expertise on proposal and budget preparation, contract and subcontracting negotiations, and compliance with state, federal, and other sponsoring agencies. The officer serves as a continuing source of information on funding opportunities and as a liaison between investigators, administrators, and agency officials.

Responsibilities
  • Provide institutional oversight of sponsored project submissions and awards, assisting investigators with grant and contract proposals, budget preparation, and review of sponsor guidelines to ensure consistency and compliance.
  • Authorize submissions when applications are compliant with institutional and sponsor guidelines; coordinate contract negotiations, ensuring agreements have received legal review and institutional compliance approvals.
  • Authorize establishment of sponsored accounts once sponsor has issued award notice, internal compliance approvals are met, budget reviews are complete, contract terms are acceptable, and institutional commitments are authorized.
  • Serve as institutional resource for information on sponsored program administration, including funding opportunities, rules and regulations of state, federal, and other sponsors, and submission and compliance issues.
  • Coordinate with Post Award to develop fiscal and programmatic reporting to meet sponsor requirements, including close‑out of projects and transfer of projects and equipment.
  • Verify information recorded in internal tracking databases and serve as local point of contact for web‑based submission systems requiring continual training.
  • Participate in institutional, regional, and national workshops and seminars on research administration to stay current on rules and regulations and maintain knowledge of emerging issues.
  • Perform all other job‑related duties/tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of three years of experience, OR an Associate degree with at least five years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in business administration, public administration, or a biomedical area.
  • Experience in preparation/review of biomedical proposals and administration of awarded programs, including close‑out.
  • Knowledge of implementation of federal regulations governing research or related matters at a non‑profit educational institution.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail‑oriented with strong organizational, decision‑making, multitasking, analytical, and prioritization skills.
  • Maintain confidentiality and work independently.
  • Manage complex responsibilities in a time‑constrained environment with poise, tact, and a customer‑oriented focus.
Shift / Salary / Benefits

Shift: Days;
Monday – Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).
Salary Minimum: $52,500 annually (Pay Band: B10).
This position is funded through external sources; continued employment is contingent upon availability of funds.
Recruitment Period:
Until Filled.
Benefits include health, dental, life insurance, Teachers Retirement System (or Optional Retirement Plan), vacation, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays. Full‑time employees may be considered for Tuition Assistance Program after six months of employment.

Conditions of Employment

All selected candidates must successfully pass a Background Check review prior to starting. Applicable candidates may need a credit check for positions of trust or Departmental Purchase Card usage. Motor vehicle reports are required for positions that require driving an Augusta University vehicle. Faculty hires must provide proof of completed academic degrees and post‑secondary coursework.
