Job Summary

Clinical pharmacist specializing in malignant hematology, responsible for optimizing medication therapy for patients with leukemia, multiple myeloma, and other hematologic malignancies. Provides direct patient care in collaboration with oncologists and the multidisciplinary team, including chemotherapy regimen review and optimization, supportive care management, and monitoring for adverse effects. Ensures safe, evidence‑based, and cost‑effective use of antineoplastic and supportive therapies while educating patients, families, and healthcare staff.

Teaching responsibilities include precepting pharmacy students, PGY‑1 and PGY‑2 pharmacy residents. Other academic opportunities are available through collaboration with University of Georgia's College of Pharmacy in Augusta, GA. PGY‑2 Oncology Residency or equivalent experience in Hematology‑Oncology required. Pharmacists must have a medication safety viewpoint and be in compliance with all applicable standards and regulations (TJC, BOP, CMS, etc.). Pharmacists oversee the activities of pharmacy technicians and must engage in teaching as part of the hospital's mission.

Core

Responsibilities And Essential Functions
  • Provides clinical pharmaceutical care to patients; prevents, detects, and resolves medication‑related problems and makes appropriate evidence‑based, patient‑centered medication therapy recommendations.
  • Participates as an effective member of the interdisciplinary care team and communicates follow‑up with the team.
  • Effectively verifies patient medication orders for appropriateness and accuracy.
  • Provides effective medication education to patients, families, and the team.
  • Actively participates in the development and implementation of performance/quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, including medication event/adverse reaction reporting & follow‑up, clinical guideline development, disease management, medication use evaluation/improvement, cost containment actions.
  • Represents pharmacy services on institutional/practice area committees and quality unit councils; conducts monthly unit inspections of assigned area.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in pharmacy distributive services; ensures quality, safety and efficiency in the distribution process and collaborates with pharmacy coworkers to ensure communication, excellent customer service, and safe drug distribution.
  • Provides oversight for pharmacy technicians and participates in opportunities to improve the quality, effectiveness and/or efficiency in distributing medications.
  • Supports the education and professional development of the Pharmacy Department and other hospital disciplines; precepts residents, pharmacy students or pharmacy technicians as assigned.
  • Engages in professional self‑development: completes required competency requirements, attends seminars and continuing education, demonstrates active membership/service/leadership in professional organizations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Required

Minimum Education
  • Bachelor’s in Pharmacy.
  • Doctor of Pharmacy – Preferred.
Required Minimum License(s) And Certification(s)
  • RPH – Regulated Pharmacist.
  • GA or SC Licensed Pharmacist required within 6 months of hire (or eligible for licensure).
Required Minimum Experience

Minimum 2 years in Pharmacy as a pharmacy technician, intern and/or pharmacist.
