Job Title: Community Based Therapist
Reports To: Clinical Director

Job Summary

The Community Based Therapist is responsible for providing home‑based individual or family therapy and crisis intervention for the purposes of family preservation, placement stabilization, reunification, and/or immediate crisis stabilization. The therapist must maintain a flexible work schedule that may include hours outside the regular schedule and evenings, weekends and holidays. The therapist should demonstrate interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with and engage families.

The therapist will work with families with a risk of CPS and DFCS involvement, children in the foster care system, birth parents, and foster parents.

This is a contract role, and contract employees are not eligible for company benefits.

Responsibilities
  • Serve high‑risk families, including those whose children are at substantial risk of placement or who are in placement and cannot be reunified without in‑home services.
  • Provide services primarily in client homes to include individual counseling, family counseling/training, drug treatment and support services for the parent/caregiver and/or child, domestic violence counseling, anger and stress management/counseling, enhanced behavior management for children, and grief management including loss/separation issues.
  • Administer biopsychosocial assessments, Caregiver Strain assessments, Child and Adolescent Function Assessment Sale, Bonding/Attachment assessments, and any other validated assessment tools specific to service needs.
  • Schedule sessions at times that are convenient for families, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Collaborate and advocate with formal and informal community resources and systems, while teaching clients to advocate for themselves.
  • Identify, develop, and implement appropriate cognitive and behavioral intervention strategies that are sensitive to the unique characteristics of each individual or family.
  • Ensure that client files, progress notes, service plans and data collection points are submitted timely, accurately documented, and accurately reflect work being done with family.
  • Be fully prepared for weekly case review and supervision.
  • Assist administrative staff in collection of information for program effectiveness.
  • Promote a positive relationship and healthy boundaries with each client with a non‑judgmental and strength‑based approach.
  • Respond in a positive and respectful manner to diversity, among the agency’s service population and staff.
  • Manage clinical caseload. The number of clients on caseload is based on the frequency of sessions.
  • Perform other duties as requested by your direct supervisor, the Clinical Director or the CEO.
Requirements
  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling, and/or marriage and family therapy and the ability to obtain licensure. Prior experience working with youth and families is a plus.
  • Ability to work with children, adolescents, adults, and families.
  • Skilled in providing individual, family, and group therapy.
  • Ability and willingness to work with families in their own homes.
  • Flexibility to work when the families are available to meet.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as contribute to a team.
  • Local travel is required.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Very good interpersonal/communication skills.
  • Strong clinical, crisis management, de‑escalation and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work with respect for cultural diversity.
  • Ability to intervene decisively, when necessary, to protect family members.
  • Ability to engage families who may not want the service.
  • Ability to adapt and individualize program interventions to utilize family strengths and skills.
