Job SummaryUnder the supervision of the department manager, the role performs a variety of tasks in support of pathologists and other allied healthcare providers. The incumbent ensures accuracy and completeness of all documents, tests ordered, and patient case reports, enabling pathologists to focus on patient care. Responsibilities include transcribing pathology reports, coordinating correspondence for consultation, ordering tests and stains, answering phone calls, managing the consultant calendar, and participating in process improvement.
CoreResponsibilities And Essential Functions
- Transcribe gross and microscopic pathology reports.
- Notify pathologists of required amendments and verify additional information.
- Prepare CAP‑required tumor anatomical forms based on diagnoses.
- Coordinate case correspondence and manage consults zouden for pathology services.
- Assist in ordering tests,comings, and lab requisitions.
- Prepare slides, blocks, and reports, manage peer review materials, and schedule tumor board presentations.
- Handle professional and technical billing in accordance with department procedures.
- Answer department phone calls, distribute mail, order supplies, and assist pathologists and histology technicians as needed.
- Maintain pathology files and records, providing patient‑case information to pathologists.
- Perform legal case duties, including coordination with attorneys, law enforcement, Risk Management, and notarization when required.
- Complete other duties assigned and comply with Wellstar Health System policies.
Minimum Education
- High School Diploma, GED, or Associates (Preferred)
- Less than 1 year; 6 months transcription experience in a medical setting with pathology experience preferred.
- Knowledge of Pathology Information System billing, tumor conference preparation, peer review, and CAP anatomical tumor forms is preferred.
- Computer skills and medical terminology with pathology specialty.
- Initiative, organization, efficiency, and multifunctional capability.
- Excellent written and oral communication, customer service, and medical terminology proficiency.
- Ability to work independently and in a team, with effective judgment.
