Chinese Mandarin Linguist CAT III

Valiant is seeking skilled CAT III Chinese Mandarin Linguists to provide interpretation and translation services in support of ongoing and new U.S. operations and mission requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Qualifications:

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in interpretation/translation.
• Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) level 3 in both Target Language and English; native proficiency preferred but not required.
• Document exploitation skills.
• In-depth geo-political knowledge.
• Computer literacy.
• Ability to understand all speech in a standard dialect and accurately follow conversations between educated native speakers, radio broadcasts, news stories, oral reports, and some technical reports and addresses on non-technical subjects.
• Ability to produce idiomatic translations of non-technical material using correct syntax and expression from English to target language and vice versa.
• Ability to interpret and translate colloquial and slang expressions.
• Ability to conduct consecutive and accurate translations, transcription, and interpretation of ongoing conversations and intelligence activities.
• Ability to provide cultural and ethnic context of translations and interpretations, advising on their significance.
• Ability to perform document exploitation—scanning, researching, and analyzing foreign language documents for intelligence, and identifying/extracting information meeting military requirements.

Security Requirements:

• Active TOP SECRET security clearance with the ability to obtain SCI.
• Ability to pass a polygraph and a CI Focus Interview.
• U.S. Citizenship required.

Physical Requirements:

• Physical activities may include lifting, climbing stairs, extended sitting or standing, among others.
