The Infusion Nurse provides comprehensive care to patients and their families during all phases of cancer care – pre‑treatment, during treatment and post‑treatment.
Education & ExperienceAssociate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
RN Licensure
Minimum 2 years of experience.
RequirementsThe Infusion Nurse educates patients and their families regarding:
- Diagnosis
- Treatment
- Side effects
- Dietary issues
- Performs venous access appropriately for type of chemotherapy
- Manages venous access devices per protocol
- Assesses blood return
- Uses antithrombotics when indicated
- Administers chemotherapy as ordered per protocol
- Manages infusion reactions
- Documents appropriately in the EMR and generates and approves billing charges
- Phone triage
- Provides a clean, safe environment in which to provide patient care
- Understands handling of hazardous substances and waste
- Excellent skills in physical assessment
- Ability to work well independently and within a team
- Excellent skills in time management, organization and communication
- Detail-oriented
