Salary
The PRN Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE) will conduct acute and non-acute pediatric medical-forensic exams, collect forensic evidence, administer indicated medications, and provide trauma-informed, patient-centered care. The FNE also collaborates closely with CEI staff and multidisciplinary partners and may provide expert testimony as needed.
Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive acute and non-acute pediatric forensic exams using trauma-informed best practices.
- Perform full head-to-toe assessments and document findings thoroughly, including forensic photography.
- Collect and manage biological and trace evidence, maintaining strict chain-of-custody compliance.
- Administer necessary medications such as STI prevention and emergency contraception when indicated and within scope.
- Provide supportive, developmentally appropriate, child-centered and family-centered care throughout the exam process.
- Maintain accurate, legally defensible documentation and confidential medical-forensic records.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case staffing, and CEI trainings as needed.
- Provide professional, unbiased collaboration with law enforcement, DFCS, prosecution, victim advocates, and other partners.
- Deliver expert testimony in court when subpoenaed, based on medical-forensic findings.
- Maintain competency through ongoing education, peer review, and adherence to CEI protocols and standards.
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing with the State of Georgia.
- Associate Degree in Nursing required; BSN or MSN preferred.
- Minimum of 12 years of pediatric nursing experience required.
- Emergency department or critical care experience preferred.
- Pediatric sexual abuse experience or forensic nursing coursework strongly preferred.
- SANE-P or pediatric forensic training preferred; training may be available for qualified candidates.
- Trauma-informed care training required or willingness to obtain.
- Ability to travel to partner locations for exams when needed.
- Strong assessment, communication, documentation, and critical thinking skills.
- Must maintain CEU requirements for licensure, including minimum 8 CEUs annually specific to child abuse.
- BLS required; PALS preferred.
- Must maintain professional liability coverage for the duration of employment.
- Exams are performed primarily at the CEI Child Advocacy Center, with occasional response to partner hospitals or outreach locations.
- PRN, flexible scheduling based on case needs.
