Job SummaryThe Grounds Keeper maintains and beautifies grounds, maintains grounds equipment, set ups, and performs waste management.
Responsibilities- Maintains ground covers, shrubs, trees, and turf grass: prunes shrubs and trees; mows lawns with proper equipment; collects and removes lawn cuttings and debris; trims around signs, trees, valve boxes and edges along walks, curbs, and beds; controls weeds; applies mulch and herbicides; applies fertilizer; hand waters new plants and trees; inspects lawns and beds for obstacles.
- Maintains grounds equipment: performs routine maintenance on equipment; cleans equipment after use; notifies crew leader and supervisor of safety or performance issues.
- Operates vehicles and equipment: checks oil and fluid levels; cleans vehicles; operates vehicles and tractors safely.
- Performs waste management: cleans and empties waste containers; removes litter from campus grounds, parking lots, and streets; removes chewing gum from sidewalks and porches.
- Assists with event setups: completes work orders for special events; assists with tents, preparation of locations, and post-event cleanup.
- Cleans and organizes grounds warehouse: sweeps floors, maintains tools, stores equipment properly, and secures flammable containers.
- Performs related work as required: wears uniform, maintains hygiene, treats others with respect, assists with additional tasks such as pressure washing and pest control; transports equipment and supplies as needed; performs other duties as instructed by supervisor.
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent; or one year of experience in a similar position in a commercial, hospital, or industrial environment. Valid driver's license required to operate golf carts and vehicles.
Preferred QualificationsThree years of experience in grounds maintenance, or equivalent training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities- Knowledge:
Occupational hazards and safety precautions of the grounds trade; standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment of the grounds trade. - Skills:
Use and care of tools and equipment; excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication. - Abilities:
Able to lift/carry 75 lbs; maintain confidentiality; follow oral and written instructions; valid drivers license to operate golf carts and vehicles; work independently and as a team; work well with coworkers, supervisors, and faculty.
Shift: Days, Monday–Friday
Pay Band: 1
Salary: $15.00/hour; salary may be commensurate with qualifications within the established range (minimum to midpoint).
