College/Department InformationThe Department of Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine at Augusta University houses key research resources including the Transgenic and Genome Editing Core, the Viral Vector Core, and a state‑of‑the‑art microscopy facility with advanced imaging technologies such as multiphoton confocal microscopes, an N‑STORM super‑resolution microscope, light‑sheet microscopes, and imaging flow cytometry.
Job SummaryA training position designed to develop advanced scientific technical and administrative skills in support of research efforts. Responsibilities include collecting and documenting research data, developing new techniques, publishing results, and performing complex chemical, biological, cytologic, microscopic, histologic, surgical, clinical, statistical/computational, and dissection procedures.
Responsibilities- Participate in project planning and development of research protocols while ensuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with federal guidelines.
- Perform experimental studies, including animal behavior, cell biology, and molecular biology experiments (e.g., animal surgery, micro‑injection, behavioral testing, genotyping, western blot, real‑time PCR, immunohistochemistry, and various microscopy and imaging techniques).
- Analyze experimental results using manual or computer techniques and, when necessary, develop special computer programs to facilitate analysis.
- Compose articles for publication in scientific journals and review articles prepared by others.
- Supervise and coordinate activities of students, graduate assistants, and other research personnel. Advise principal investigators, other postdocs, students, and research personnel on techniques and procedures.
- Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and operate microscopes, computer‑linked analytical equipment, dedicated computers, and other complex scientific equipment; instruct others in equipment operation.
- Perform all other job‑related duties as assigned.
- Ph.D. from an accredited college or university.
- Expertise in global cerebral ischemia and traumatic brain injury animal models, breeding and maintaining mouse transgenic colonies, and measurement of serum and tissue hormone levels.
- Expertise in mouse animal behavioral tests.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases or willingness to learn.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills, detail‑oriented with the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work as a team.
- Ability to complete work and meet deadlines.
- Willingness and ability to work with research animals.
- Ability to work independently with only general supervision.
- Shift: Days;
Monday‑Friday (work outside normal business hours may be required). - Salary commensurate with qualifications within the established range (generally minimum‑midpoint).
