Postdoctoral Fellow – MCG Vascular Biology Center
Location: Augusta University – Health Sciences Campus, 1120 15th Street, Augusta, GA 30912; 2500 Walton Way, Augusta, GA 30904.
Job Summary: A training position designed to learn through engagement in advanced scientific, technical, and administrative work in support of research efforts in an assigned laboratory focused on quantitative experimental animal and cell culture data. Participate in research data collection and documentation within relevant guidelines and protocols; develop and evaluate new research techniques and procedures; publish results in scientific journals. Perform a variety of complex chemical, biological, cytologic, confocal microscopic, surgical, statistical/computational and dissection of mice procedures.
Responsibilities- Analyze results of experiments manually or using computational software.
- Perform vascular microsurgeries to model AVF, wire injury, and aortic aneurysm formation.
- Conduct in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo mechanism studies on VSMC phenotypic adaptation in cardiovascular diseases.
- Participate in project planning and development of research protocols while ensuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and relevant federal guidelines.
- Coordinate and participate in research of scientific literature; summarize and evaluate findings; develop derivative applications of techniques reported in other research projects.
- Present findings at scientific meetings locally, nationally, and internationally.
- Compose articles for publication in scientific journals and review articles prepared by others.
- Discuss research techniques, procedures, and technological aspects of research activities with principal investigators, other postdocs, students, and research personnel.
- Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and operate microscopes, computer‑linked analytical equipment, dedicated computers, and other complex scientific equipment; instruct others in operation of equipment.
- Perform all other job‑related duties as assigned.
- MD, PhD, or MD/PhD or equivalent degree from an accredited college or university.
- Strong research background in vascular cell pathophysiology, flow cytometry or fluorescence imaging, protein–protein interaction, or molecular biology.
- Experience with signaling pathways using multiple experimental techniques including cell culture, RNA analysis, chromatin immunoprecipitation, mouse breeding, genotyping, cloning, western blot, immunoprecipitation, and immunohistochemistry.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases or willingness to learn.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Good organizational skills, detail‑oriented with ability to prioritize tasks.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently with only general supervision.
- Ability to complete work and meet deadlines.
Shift: Days;
Monday – Friday (work outside normal business hours may be required).
Salary commensurate with qualifications within the established range (generally minimum–midpoint).
