About the Department

Established in 1829, the Medical College of Georgia Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) conducts translational research in disease detection, prevention, and treatment. The department focuses on bladder, brain, breast, eye, gastrointestinal tract, kidney, liver, and prostate diseases, and is home to the Biochemistry and Cancer Biology Graduate Program.

Job Summary

The incumbent will conduct basic bench research related to defining mechanistic determinants of neuroendocrine differentiation and designing novel exosome‑based therapeutics for advanced prostate cancer. Responsibilities include in vitro and in vivo mechanistic studies, laser capture microdissection, mRNA and micro

RNA analysis, exosome engineering, isolation, and characterization. The role requires familiarity with prostate cancer mouse models, including transgenic mice.

Responsibilities
  • Perform technical work in support of ongoing research projects.
  • Participate in data collection and documentation, and develop new research techniques and procedures.
  • Manage day‑to‑day laboratory activities, including ordering, inventory updates, reagent preparation, and equipment maintenance.
  • Analyze and present data verbally and/or in writing, following research guidelines and protocols.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, social sciences, natural sciences, life sciences, health care, or materials science, or an associate degree with a minimum of three years of experience in a research or clinical area.
  • Experience in a research or clinical setting directly related to the research area.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science with emphasis in biochemistry, chemistry, genetics, or molecular biology.
  • Previous experience in a research laboratory.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases; statistical analysis tools desirable.
  • Knowledge or experience in cancer biology and related fields.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail‑oriented with strong team‑building skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently under minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to work with research animals and manage multiple projects and priorities.
Shift / Salary / Benefits
  • Shift: Days (Monday – Friday)
  • Hourly Salary: $17.88 (Pay Band: B5, commensurate with qualifications within the range)
  • Benefits:
    Health, dental, life insurance, Teachers Retirement System or Optional Retirement Plan, paid vacation, sick leave, 13 paid holidays. Tuition Assistance Program available after 6 months of full‑time employment.
  • Continued employment contingent upon availability of external funding.
