About the RolePerform administrative and technical work in support of research regarding retinal neurovascular biology and mechanisms of immune, neuron and vascular interaction that control retinal neurovascular function during health and disease. Work with the Principal Investigator and lab members to develop novel strategies for cell survival, vascular repair, and revascularization in diseases such as retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and age‑related macular degeneration (AMD).
Responsibilities- Molecular/Cellular Biology experiments; cell/tissue culture; animal breeding and handling; vision function assessment. Analyze results of experiments and procedures using manual or computer techniques.
- Project planning and development of research protocols while ensuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines.
- Coordinate and participate in research of scientific literature; summarize and evaluate findings; develop derivative applications of techniques developed by own research activities or reported by other research projects. Present findings at scientific meetings locally, nationally, and internationally. Compose articles for publication in scientific journals; review articles prepared by others.
- Maintain a detailed lab record and support daily lab operations. Teach and participate in complex qualitative and quantitative analysis.
- Supervise and coordinate activities of students, graduate assistants, and other research personnel engaged in research activities and/or related laboratory work. Advise principal investigators, other Post‑docs, students, and other research personnel on research techniques, procedures, and other technological aspects of research activities.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
- Ph.D. or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Detail‑oriented with strong prioritization and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to complete work and meet deadlines.
- Willingness and ability to work with research animals.
- Ability to work independently with only general supervision.
Shift: Days;
Monday – Friday (work outside normal business hours may be required). Salary commensurate with qualifications within the established range. Benefits available to full‑time, benefits‑eligible employees and some part‑time employees may include health, dental, and life insurance; retirement plan; earned vacation time; sick leave; and 13 paid holidays. Full‑time employees employed for more than six months may be eligible for the Tuition Assistance Program.
