Overview

Lead Electrical Maintenance Technician on-site coordinator and crew supervisor for all electrical work. Coordinates the scheduling and execution of Preventative and Predictive Maintenance, Corrective Maintenance, and Warranty work. The Lead Electrical Maintenance Technician will split their time between administrative efforts such as planning, scheduling, and documenting work, and field time with the crew performing the work. They will act as the first line of supervision to the electrical crews.

Responsibilities

Works with Electrical Maintenance Technicians to ensure electrical maintenance is completed safely, on schedule, and within equipment manufacturer’s recommendations.

Duties include:

  • Installation, maintenance, testing, calibration, and commissioning of electrical systems and components.
  • Act as “Employee in Charge” on some jobs, ensuring efficient planning and safe completion.
  • Perform other assignments as required, including supervision.
  • Read and interpret one-line drawings, schematic diagrams, and other service documents, including manufacturer’s instructions and manuals.
  • Maintain personal protective equipment (PPE), hand tools, and test equipment.
  • Ensure personal safety and the safety of others by understanding and complying with safety policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Identify and wear appropriate PPE as required by the task.
  • Understand and adhere to strict Standard Operating Procedures and Switching Plans.
  • Troubleshoot using digital multimeters, clamp-on ammeters, power quality meters, infrared scanners, and circuit tracers.
  • Perform simple protective relay calibration and commissioning.
  • Verify control wiring point-to-point.
  • Perform equipment switching, isolation, LOTO, zero volt check, and grounding.
  • Maintain and inspect equipment such as high voltage SF6 circuit breakers, medium voltage vacuum circuit breakers, low voltage power circuit breakers, switchboards, panel boards, ground systems, motor starters, VFDs, cables, switches, ground fault systems, transformers, and substation equipment.
  • Work with NETA MTS testing specifications.
  • Record field data accurately using Power DB and Maximo.
  • Assist with start-up services on switch gear and electrical systems up to 138 kV.
  • Conduct safety meetings as required.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and safety policies.
  • Maintain strong team and client relationships.
Qualifications

Must be capable of achieving and maintaining TS/SCI security clearance.

High school diploma or GED, coupled with an Electrical Journeyman license or a Technical Degree/Certificate in a related field (e.g., AS in Electrical/Electronics, Instrumentation, Controls, or NETA Level II or NICET Level II in Electrical Power Testing).

  • Minimum of 10 years experience in facilities maintenance with a thorough understanding of electrical systems, controls, generators, and life safety systems; preferably five years in data center or complex mission-critical environments.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to efficiently schedule and execute work in a dynamic environment with large equipment volumes.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical instructions, plans, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NETA maintenance practices, procedures, and quality control.
  • Ability to evaluate complex electrical systems, perform damage assessments, estimate maintenance needs, diagnose malfunctions, and employ testing and inspection techniques.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights, lift equipment over six feet above ground.
  • Must meet all licensing and certification requirements.
  • Physical ability to lift at least 100 pounds at once and 60 pounds for extended periods.
  • Ability to use ladders, scaffolds, and lifts safely.

  • Work at heights up to 60 feet, climbing and maintaining balance on various equipment.
