General

Summary:

The Electrician Helper assists electricians by performing tasks under the direct supervision of an electrician, handling materials and supporting the installation work. This role requires keeping materials, tools, and equipment orderly and maintaining a clean work area. Demonstrating safe work habits and proper care of tools and equipment. Electrician Helpers are not permitted to work on energized circuits or equipment.

Mandatory Hiring Requirements

Responsibilities:

• Assist electricians by performing tasks under the direct supervision of an electrician; maintain materials and assist with installation; keep work area clean
• Basic blueprint knowledge
• Layout from field sketches
• Panel terminations
• Size conduit and boxes
• Transformer terminations
• Motor terminations
• Underground conduit installation
• Overhead and in-wall conduit and cable installation
• Wire terminations in J-Box
• Conduit and box installation in CMU block alongside masons
• Pull wire feeder/branch/low-voltage
• Operate equipment (training provided)
• Assist in keeping fluid levels checked and greased in equipment and vehicles
• All other duties as assigned

Position Requirements:

• License: Valid state driver's license preferred
• Certification: None required
• Education: High School Graduate/GED preferred
• Experience: None required

Working Conditions:

• Work in all weather elements (heat, cold, rain, snow) depending on location and time of year
• Must be able to use construction site sanitary facilities (Porta-Johns)
• Must bring personal tools to work (waist belt ~30 lbs)
• Work from ladders and transport/relocate ladders unassisted
• Personal weight with tools must not exceed ladder rating
• Work at various heights up to 90 feet on ladders, scaffolds, and other platforms
• Work in restricted areas such as switch gear rooms, manholes, tunnels, and crawl spaces
• Wear required personal protective equipment
• Regularly work 40 hours per week plus overtime as required; night shifts, weekends, and out-of-town work may be required

Required Physical/Mental Functions:

• Positively identify wire colors
• Understand construction drawings, schematics, and specifications
• Bend conduit using hand benders
• Safely use required power tools
• Safely operate construction equipment (trencher, forklift, aerial work platforms, etc.)
• Dig trenches and use hand/power tools
• Practice safe work procedures per Company Safety Handbook
• Operate two-handed tools (cable cutters, hammer drills, compression tools, etc.)
• Operate company vehicle with manual or automatic transmission
• Read maps, manuals, directions, and written instructions
• Must hear and see well (natural or corrected)
• Ability to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, reach overhead
• Lift objects up to 50 pounds; frequently lift/carry up to 20 pounds
• Prolonged standing and movement on foot
• Climb ladders of all types
• Repetitive use of arms/hands/fingers; complete overhead work for full days
• Access construction areas from employee parking or street using OSHA-approved methods
• Secure tools and materials from storage areas to complete tasks
