Assists carpenters in the construction, maintenance, or remodeling of buildings or other structures. Learns and practices carpentry skills such as cutting, drilling, measuring, flooring, tiling, and various installation procedures. Sets up, transports, and maintains tools. Observes all worksite safety procedures and guidelines. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.
Responsibilities- Constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures throughout campus ensuring projects are completed and are in good working order.
- Prepares for campus carpentry projects by ensuring the proper tools, equipment, and supplies are available at the job site.
- Performs and completes indoor and outdoor general maintenance and repair projects throughout campus, including responding to flooded buildings due to adverse weather events and other emergency repair situations.
- Cleans equipment, tools, and shop area, including disposing of hazardous products to maintain the equipment and work area in a safe and operational manner.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
High School diploma or GED from a recognized State or Federal accredited organization with one year experience. Valid driver's license and qualified to operate Augusta University vehicles.
Preferred QualificationsFive or more years of experience in the field;
Advanced technical training with the maintenance and construction field.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Skilled with using hand and power tools
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases
- Knowledge of casework fabrication/assembly/installation and roofing repair
- General knowledge of all phases of building construction and use of personal computers
- Basic level of knowledge in carpentry and general construction skills
Shift: Days/M‑F
Pay Band: 4
Salary Minimum: $17.02/hour – $19.31/hour
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum‑midpoint)
Benefits may include health, dental, and life insurance, a Teachers Retirement System (or Optional Retirement Plan), earned vacation time, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays. Full‑time employees successfully employed for more than 6 months may be considered for the Tuition Assistance Program.
Conditions of Employment- All selected candidates must successfully pass a Background Check review prior to starting.
- Where applicable, a credit check is required for Positions of Trust and/or approved departmental Purchase Card usage.
- Motor vehicle reports are required for positions that require driving an Augusta University vehicle.
- Faculty hires must provide proof of completed academic degree(s) and post‑secondary coursework transcripts. International candidates must provide a credential evaluation.
- All employees must maintain confidentiality, availability, and integrity of sensitive information, adhering to cybersecurity and privacy policies.
The Human Resources Division will request a driver's history report for the identified top candidate(s) through our Background Check Vendor. The selected candidate must have a valid driver's license.
