Job SummaryThis position reports to the Supervisor of Housing Facilities Operations and performs basic general maintenance and repairs in AU Student Housing Facilities. The role includes plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting, and plastering tasks, assisting maintenance engineers, and complying with safety guidelines.
Responsibilities- Inspect existing spaces to identify deficiencies in mechanical, electrical, lighting, and structural components.
- Initiate and update work orders in the Work Management system.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks and troubleshoot building systems (HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing).
- Respond to system failures, clear clogged piping, and assist with cleanup.
- Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical and lighting systems, including ballasts and outlets.
- Replace lamps, ballasts, and batteries as needed.
- Conduct basic carpentry tasks such as painting, door repair, casework, signage, and flooring maintenance.
- Support student housing events and coordinate work with outside vendors.
- Collaborate with housing unit staff (Resident Advisors) on access needs.
- Perform all work safely, cost‑effectively, and in compliance with regulatory guidelines.
- Provide after‑hours emergency response when required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED plus one year of experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
Required Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of building maintenance and construction skills.
Associates degree from an accredited technical college or equivalent, plus two (2) years of experience in a maintenance organization.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Understanding of basic building maintenance, operations, and repair (electrical, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry). Knowledge of building codes and OSHA standards.
- Ability to safely use hand and power tools.
Shift: Days (Monday – Friday). Pay Band: B6; $18.85 hourly, commensurate with qualifications. Recruitment Period: 11/11/25 – Until Filled. Full‑time employees eligible for benefits including health, dental, life insurance, Teachers Retirement System (or optional retirement plan), vacation, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays. Tuition Assistance Program available after 6 months of employment.
