The University of Maine at Augusta invites applications for a full‑time, tenure‑track, Assistant Professor of Mathematics, beginning fall 2026. The successful candidate will have experience teaching a wide range of mathematics courses and a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate level. This position will be based on UMA’s Augusta or Bangor campus.

UMa transforms the lives of students across Maine through high‑quality distance and on‑site education, excellent student support, civic engagement, and professional and liberal arts programs. UMA faculty are excellent teachers committed to innovative delivery, technology use, scholarly activity, and service. The mathematics department offers general education and degree‑specific courses delivered in various modalities. The successful candidate will be active in university service through advising, curriculum development, committee activity, and community outreach.

Duties may include teaching courses affiliated with the UMAs Prison Education Partnership and supporting early‑college programming.

Salary and Benefits

The normal hiring range is in the $60,000 range, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Qualifications
  • Doctorate in mathematics, data science, or mathematics‑related field by the date of employment.
  • Strong background in mathematics education and pedagogy.
  • Experience teaching and/or tutoring mathematics, including work as a teaching assistant.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred
  • Experience in online and distance education modalities.
  • Experience teaching developmental mathematics (e.g., Pre‑Algebra and Algebra).
  • Experience teaching using new technologies and delivery systems.
  • Experience teaching mathematics at the college level.
