In September of 2013, the University of Maine at Augusta, in collaboration with Maine Instrument Flight, launched the UMA Bachelor of Science in Aviation program. Additionally, in 2017, UMA started offering a program for remote pilots flying small Unmanned Aircraft or drones.
Our 8-course UAS certificate program allows you to become a certified FAA remote pilot capable of being hired by many Maine businesses or establishing your own business offering aviation services. The University of Maine at Augusta seeks a part-time instructor to teach Aviation Meteorology courses in the Aviation program.
Salary:
Salary is per credit hour and commensurate with qualifications and previous experience, in accordance with the PATFA contract.
- A master’s degree in Meteorology or other Master’s degree with experience in the field.
- Experience explaining meteorology to pilots from the aviation perspective.
- Knows how forecasts and weather trends affect pilots and flight planning.
- Familiar with current weather products used to brief pilots.
- Experience creating or using aviation weather forecasts.
- Experience creating or using turbulence and icing forecasts.
- Experience creating or interpreting graphical weather hazard/risk outlooks focused on aviation operations.
- Strong familiarity with how various weather conditions (wind direction, wind speed, ceilings, visibility, etc.) will affect runway configurations at a given airport.
- Familiarity with air traffic management programs and airspace classifications.
- Strong synoptic and mesoscale meteorology skills, with significant experience forecasting or anticipating convection, winter weather, and tropic weather.
- Familiarity with impacts of volcanic ash and large-scale dust storms on aircraft and flight patterns/routes.
- Familiarity with Convective-Allowing Models (CAMs) and their applicability to aviation meteorology.
