Project Engineer – ResponsibilitiesConceptual, preliminary and final detailed design of new, upgraded and expanded substations, including material procurement, construction and commissioning/startup support through energization. Engineering responsibilities include the development and delivery of physical, electrical, civil and communication design studies, calculations, drawings, exhibits and specifications. A Project Engineer assists the Project Manager in planning and execution of best‑in‑class projects, including client and stakeholder coordination, training and mentoring of design staff, project quality assurance, and oversight of design engineers, designers, drafters and support staff.
Project Engineers coordinate specialized tasks with ECI’s subject matter expert discipline groups such as Distribution Studies, Transmission Studies, Grounding Studies, Protection (relay coordination and settings), Civil Engineering, Communication (SCADA Integration), Transmission & Distribution Engineering, Environmental Planning, Surveying, Lands/Right‑of‑Way, and Project Management/Controls.
Bachelor of Science or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, 6+ years’ project and design engineering experience, or an acceptable combination of education and experience. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong organization and planning skills; ability to work in a team environment; commitment to quality and accuracy; and willingness to meet fast‑paced project schedules. A PE license is preferred. The successful applicant must have advanced knowledge of power engineering principals, be expert regarding applicable codes, standards and design tools, possess basic project management execution skills, and have ability to oversee and direct design personnel on a project team.
Experience in the utility or merchant power industry a plus. The successful applicant may be subject to client‑mandated drug and background checking. Occasional travel/driving is required; therefore the successful applicant will be subject to ECI’s auto insurance carrier requirements. Applicants must not require sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H‑1B visa status) now or in the future.
