OverviewWe are seeking a Lead Substation Engineer to join our team in Augusta, ME or Rochester, NY and contribute to the design, development, and execution of medium and high voltage substation projects.
Your Role- Work within a multi‑discipline team to develop and/or review efficient and reliable electrical design packages for medium and high voltage substations.
- Lead substation physical electrical design, creating site and equipment layouts, elevations, buswork, ground grids, lightning shielding, material lists, and more.
- Perform design studies and demonstrate a strong working knowledge of physical electrical substation design.
- Coordinate design activities to maintain project schedules, budgets, and quality requirements for successful project completion.
- Assist in site visits, station walkdowns, estimating, and attending project meetings.
- Provide design activities in accordance with applicable codes and standards, including SNC‑Lavalin policies and procedures such as Safety, Environmental, QA/QC.
- Select equipment and materials, and prepare specifications for material, equipment, and construction work.
- Deliver accurate and thorough electrical designs that meet industry standards, specifications, and prudent engineering practices.
- Review internal and external designs for code compliance, good design practice, and constructability.
- Coordinate design activities with other multi‑discipline project team members.
- Provide construction support, including resolving site queries, attending site meetings, and performing inspections during construction.
- Maintain complete project documentation for engineering studies, calculations, design packages, as‑built requirements, and return data.
- Maintain good relationships with internal groups such as other engineering disciplines, Drafting, and Project Management.
- Mentor and provide guidance to developing engineers within the department.
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience focused on substation engineering for senior/lead positions.
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration preferred for all positions; required for senior positions.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Prior utility consulting experience is a plus.
- Strong client focus and customer service orientation.
- High level of interpersonal communication skills, with strong command of the English language and good written and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of applicable industry standards such as NEC, NESC, and IEEE.
- Ability to perform independently and in a team environment, providing project ownership.

Expected compensation range is $94,000 – $136,000 annually, depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
