Job Description

This position manages the Research & Innovation Office within the Bureau of Project Development s position involves planning, programming, budgeting, and project delivery of the State Planning & Research federally funded program. It also requires building working relationships with agency staff to ensure funds are used on high priority projects that can lead to improved transportation systems.

Other duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to;

  • Active involvement in the UMaine research center along with other regional and national research programs,
  • Overseeing the Maine

    DOT Innovates Pilot Project program, State Transportation Innovation Council (STIC) under FHWA,
  • Coordinating Transportation Pooled Fund participation ,
  • Leading value engineering efforts, and
  • Introducing agency staff to research opportunities to promote employee development.

The applicant will need to gain a comprehensive understanding of those areas and effectively engage subject matter experts to champion the work. The applicant should possess good writing skills, interpersonal skills, work well in a collaborative environment, and be customer service driven. The applicant will need to build and maintain relationships with external partners such UMaine and FHWA, along with other research organizations including AASHTO, TRB and NCHRP.

This collaboration ensures Department interests are considered, leverages funding, improves research result implementation and provides employee development growth for our staff.

To be minimally qualified for this position candidates must provide evidence of the following experience:

Registration as a Professional Engineer and one (1) year work experience in Civil Engineering at the professional level (beyond such licensure) to include one (1) year experience demonstrating progressively responsible duties in program or project management and/or management responsibilities.
