Job Description

Maine CDC’s Infectious Disease Epidemiology () Program is looking for an Informatics Epidemiologist to provide support within the program’s Informatics Epidemiology team. This team is responsible for finding technical solutions to human problems and collaborating closely with our informatics programmers to improve Maine CDC’s informatics systems.

In this position, you will support the informatics and data modernization objectives within the  Program including tracking grant related requirements, submitting federal progress reports, and providing informatics support to our field and central epidemiology teams. You will do this work collaboratively with the informatics team which includes programmers, informaticians, and epidemiologists. You will work with the informatics team to brainstorm, plan, and implement solutions to make our work more efficient, complete, and accurate.

Core

Responsibilities

You will serve as an Informatics Epidemiologist within the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Program in Maine. You will be responsible for supporting surveillance systems (including but not limited to disease surveillance and syndromic surveillance) and providing expertise and training for other staff. You will use epidemiologic/analytic expertise combined with informatics to maintain, support, and improve Maine’s multiple surveillance systems.

You will also:

  • Assist with data quality and data management projects
  • Provide epidemiologic expertise for the onboarding of electronic laboratory reports and electronic case reports
  • Provide professional consultation to program epidemiologists and healthcare partners
  • Collaborate with other epidemiologists to improve overall program operations.
  • Provide input to public health policy initiatives based on surveillance and evaluation to reduce barriers to disease control and prevention.
  • Communicate informatics information in a way that is understandable to non-technical partners
  • Serve as Epidemiologist-On-Call on a rotating basis.
  • Coordinate (or participate) in a state sponsored informatics workgroup.
  • Assist the Program Manager in the writing of informatics grant sections and completion of required reporting.
  • Assist in completing the program’s informatics objectives by attending regular informatics team meetings within the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Program and assisting in informatics grant objectives.
  • Assist with coordination of statewide surveillance for reportable infectious conditions and provide informatics consultation to medical providers and members of the public.
  • Participate in and contribute to overall Infectious Disease Epidemiology Program planning and evaluation activities.
  • Assist in additional duties as reasonably assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

AMasters

Degree in Epidemiology or closely related field or aBachelors

Degree in Epidemiology or closely related field and two (2) years professional experience in epidemiology. Equivalent related experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred candidate swill also have
  • Previous experience in informatics including HL7 messaging, programming languages, SQL structure and coding, syndromic surveillance, and/or surveillance systems (examples NBS, REDCap, ESSENCE, MVPS, etc.)
  • Knowledge of principles and practice of epidemiology and public health surveillance
  • Ability to gather, synthesize, and summarize a variety of information
  • Experience with statistics and statistical software (SAS, R Script, Python, etc.)
