Travel Medical Technologist

Providing laboratory services to the VA Maine Healthcare System in Augusta, ME. Working hours include day, evening, night shifts and weekend rotations.
Responsibilities- Perform routine chemistry testing on automated and manual instrumentation.
- Conduct daily and weekly quality control procedures and instrument maintenance.
- Execute blood bank duties: cross matching, antibody screening, cell panels, and blood product processing.
- Conduct hematology and coagulation testing on automated instruments and manual procedures.
- Perform microbiology testing: plating, gram staining, plate reading, subculture, Microscan setup, PCR testing, and routine procedures.
- Collect patient specimens and perform patient phlebotomy and specimen processing.
- Perform urinalysis testing on automated instrumentation and manual techniques.
- Complete CAP proficiency testing and document all patient testing and QC results.
- Identify and resolve collection, processing, testing, or reporting issues.
- Provide patient‑centered care with professional service to all stakeholders.
- Work various shifts including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field from an accredited institution.
- National certification as a Medical Technologist (MT, MLS, or CLS) through ASCP or AMT.
- Minimum 3 years of recent experience in chemistry, urinalysis, blood bank, hematology, coagulation, and microbiology.
- Current and up‑to‑date continuing education required for maintaining certification.
- Knowledge of CAP and The Joint Commission standards.
- United States citizenship and successful completion of a government‑sponsored background investigation.
- COVID‑19 and Influenza vaccinations required in accordance with VHA Directive 1192.01.
- Experience working with Veterans and/or VA knowledge is preferred.
- Stand for extended periods of time.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Visual acuity sufficient to perform microscopic examinations.
