Night School Aquatic Leadership Program Teaching position for the session.
This position will use a blended learning format consisting of pool instruction, face-to-face instruction in-class, and online learning.
Aquatics Leadership Program – Part 1 Consists Of The Following
Secondary School Grade 10 Credit - Healthy Living and Aquatic Activities – PAQ2O
Lifesaving Society's Bronze Medallion
Lifesaving Society's Bronze Cross
Lifesaving Society's Standard First Aid with CPR-C
Aquatics Leadership Program – Part 2 consists of the following courses:
Secondary School Grade 12 Credit - Recreation and Healthy Active Living Leadership – PLF4 M1
Lifesaving Society's National Lifeguard Certification
Lifesaving Society's Swim and Lifesaving Instructor Certification
The Aquatic Leadership Program is a joint venture between the York Region District School Board, Continuing Education Services and the City of Richmond Hill and the City of Vaughan.
In the Fall, the qualified teacher for Part 1 will deliver the Grade 10 Healthy Living and Aquatic Activities (PAQ2O) while preparing students to acquire their Lifesaving Society's Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross and Standard First Aid with CPR-C. The aquatic skills for lifeguarding, swim and instructor must be evaluated by an examiner from the Lifesaving Society.
In the Winter, the qualified teacher for Part 2 will deliver the Grade 12 Recreation and Healthy Active Living Leadership (PLF4M1), while preparing students to acquire their Lifesaving Society's National Lifeguard Certification and Lifesaving Society's Swim and Lifesaving Instructor qualifications. An examiner from the Lifesaving Society will evaluate the aquatic skills required for swim and instructor certification.
Course expectations will be assessed and evaluated using Standard Lifesaving Society evaluation criteria and the Ontario Ministry of Education Expectations.
The course will be offered at four locations and will use a blended learning format consisting of pool instruction, face-to-face instruction in class and online learning.
The class at the Wave Pool (Richmond Hill) is effective from September 23, 2026 to January 20, 2027 and February 8, 2027 (Fall Part
1) to June 21, 2027 (Winter Part
2). Pool instruction and face-to-face instruction will occur on specifically scheduled Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The class at the Dufferin Clark Community Centre (Vaughan) is effective from September 24, 2026 to January 19, 2027 (Fall Part
1) and February 9, 2027 to June 10, 2027 (Winter Part
2). Pool instruction and face-to-face instruction will occur on specifically scheduled Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The class at the Magna Centre Pool (Newmarket) is effective from September 24, 2026 to January 19, 2027 (Fall Part
1) and February 9, 2027 to June 10, 2027 (Winter Part
2). Pool instruction and face-to-face instruction will occur on specifically scheduled Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Please Note:
For the Night School Aquatic Leadership Program teachers must be qualified to teach Health and Physical Education at the Intermediate/Senior division and must have the appropriate instructor and examiner's certifications. Teachers must also be available for all pool, face-to-face and online sessions. The successful candidate must complete facility staff training as required by the Ontario Public Pool Association. Teachers may apply for one or more locations.

Developing and maintaining an equitable and inclusive learning environment.
Utilizing e-learning tools e.g.:
Bright Space by D2L, Google Classroom, Turnitin, etc. to deliver online curriculum
Collecting and reporting of student achievement…
