As a senior operational risk advisor for the second line of defence, you’ll collaborate on strategic issues with the frontline of the life and health insurance sector. Your role is to support, challenge and monitor non-financial risks to help guide informed, robust decision‑making that aligns with risk management best practices. A recognized leader in operational risk management, you’re able to oversee the end‑to‑end production, analysis and presentation of quarterly operational risk reports.

You supervise complex files on your own, and facilitate clear, structured and business‑oriented discussions with high‑level internal partners. Your ability to explain and summarize multidimensional issues at the executive level is an important part of your role. Your influence on the second line of defence contributes directly to enhancing the organization’s risk management practices. You build strong, trusting relationships while maintaining active monitoring and a thorough understanding of emerging risks specific to the life and health insurance sector.

You also serve as a strategic reinforcement for the risk officer who you will fill in for at several key meetings. Accordingly, you’ll help maintain risk representation continuity and ensure a high degree of influence over the sector’s strategic directions. More specifically, you will be required to:

  • Produce, analyze, draft and present the quarterly operational risk reports for the life and health insurance sector.
  • Maintain an ongoing business dialogue and long‑term relationships with partners by supporting operational and strategic teams in understanding and managing risks.
  • Ensure the quality, consistency and business value of the analyses and deliverables for the second line of defence, including conducting reviews, challenges and quality assurance of the risk positions.
  • Maintain an integrated view of sector risks, diagnose priority issues and prioritize activities in line with the sector roadmap.
  • Serve as a go‑to reference for assigning, coordinating and guiding files, and use your subject‑matter expertise and feedback to support team members’ further development.
  • Represent the team on committees and decision‑making bodies, including filling in for the risk officer, and influence key decisions on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Develop and update operational risk management practices, processes, tools and methodologies.

What you bring to the table
  • Bachelor’s degree in risk management, business administration, actuarial science or any other relevant field related to risk analysis and governance
  • A minimum of eight years of relevant experience
  • Please note that other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered
  • Professional risk management designation (FRM, PRM, ORM, CRM, etc.)
  • Proven experience in risk management
  • Significant experience in managing complex file
  • Knowledge of French is required
  • Risk assessment and control expertise
  • Writing and presentation expertise at the executive level
  • In‑depth knowledge of the life and health insurance sector and its operational risks
  • Knowledge of risk management methodologies, tools and frameworks
  • Knowledge of a financial institution’s activities and risks
