Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Routing Analyst to support and optimize waste collection operations across multiple divisions nationwide. This role is responsible for leveraging routing software, operational data, and geographic insights to design efficient, cost-effective, and scalable collection routes.
Key Responsibilities- Analyze and optimize collection routes across residential, commercial, and industrial divisions throughout Canada
- Utilize routing and GIS software to improve route density, reduce travel time, and minimize fuel consumption
- Continuously monitor route performance using KPIs such as route efficiency, service time, missed pickups, and cost per stop
- Collaborate with operations managers, dispatch teams, and drivers to implement route improvements
- Conduct regular audits of existing routes and recommend adjustments based on volume changes, seasonality, and service requirements
- Support onboarding of new service areas, customers, and contracts by designing optimal routing plans
- Maintain accurate route data, service maps, and documentation within internal systems
- Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement within routing workflows
- Assist in forecasting and capacity planning to ensure balanced workloads across divisions
- Provide reporting and insights to leadership on operational performance and cost-saving initiatives
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Geography, Data Analytics, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 2–5 years of experience in routing, logistics, transportation planning, or operations analysis
- Experience with routing optimization software (e.g., Route Smart, ArcGIS, or similar tools)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with proficiency in Excel and data analysis tools
- Familiarity with GIS systems and spatial data is considered an asset
- Ability to interpret large datasets and translate findings into actionable operational improvements
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams
- Experience in waste management, transportation, or field service operations is preferred
- Salary range: $75,000 – $85,000
