Job Title: Director of Child Health Clinical Research

We invite applications for the position of Director of Child Health Clinical Research within the Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology. This academic leadership role will advance the division's research mission by fostering innovation, scholarship, and collaboration in clinical and translational research.

The Director will oversee the research portfolio, mentor faculty and trainees, and facilitate the development of high‑quality human‑subjects research protocols that address important questions in pediatric anesthesiology and perioperative medicine. The Director reports to the Division Chief and the Vice Chair of Research.

The selected individual must maintain a full‑time faculty position at the Assistant/Associate/Professor level. An MD or DO is required as is board certification in anesthesiology and pediatric anesthesia. In their faculty position, the individual must continue clinical duties, supervise advanced practice providers and learners, and maintain academic productivity and scholarship.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide academic leadership for the Division’s research enterprise, setting priorities that align with departmental and institutional strategic goals.
  • Mentor faculty, fellows, residents, and medical students in the design, conduct, analysis, and dissemination of clinical and translational research.
  • Facilitate the development and approval of human‑subjects protocols, ensuring compliance with institutional and federal regulations.
  • Supervise the division’s research coordinator to ensure effective study execution, data integrity, and regulatory compliance.
  • Stimulate scholarly productivity by encouraging grant submissions, fostering collaborations, and supporting dissemination of findings through peer‑reviewed publications and presentations.
  • Collaborate with the Vice Chair for Research to integrate pediatric anesthesiology projects into larger departmental and institutional initiatives.
  • Monitor and report on the division’s research progress and scholarly impact to the Division Chief and Vice Chair for Research.
  • Contribute to a culture of inquiry and innovation that advances pediatric anesthesiology and enhances the university’s academic reputation.

Qualifications

Open rank position – could be Assistant, Associate, or Professor based on experience.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Licensed to practice medicine in Colorado.
  • Board Certified in Anesthesiology and Pediatric Anesthesiology (or equivalent).
  • Currently appointed or able to be appointed to the CU School of Medicine faculty.
  • A strong record of scholarly achievement in relevant research.
  • Evidence of sustained scholarly productivity, including peer-reviewed publications and extramural funding (or potential to obtain such funding).

Associate Professor: must meet all Assistant Professor qualifications and the School of Medicine’s requirements for Associate Professor.

Professor: must meet all Assistant Professor qualifications and the School of Medicine’s requirements for Professor.
