The Civil Structural Engineering Manager is a discipline leader responsible for technical design to support proposals, engineer of record review, and operations support for a utility scale PV EPC contractor in the US. Their primary functions will be leading proposal level design efforts on a project level, developing advancements as the subject SME, and supervise a team. The Civil Structural Engineering Manager will work closely with the Estimating Department, Operations, and Senior Renewables leadership to ensure designs are accurate, within scope, meet code, and are within the corporation’s directive throughout all Renewables project locations.
PrimaryJob Responsibilities
- Lead engineers across civil/structural disciplines of all project participants to conceptualize and develop preliminary design documents in accordance with technical, commercial and code compliance requirements.
- Supervise a small group comprised of both engineers and designers.
- Establish civil structural engineering standards, processes and automation systems to reduce time, effort and cost during design process.
- Work closely with Procurement to evaluate technology, materials and alternatives that place Primoris in an industry leading position.
- Work closely with Estimating team to capture all the scope of work, design aspects and any specific requirements from clients.
- Collaborate with clients to understand their engineering and design needs. Use this insight and data to lead the engineering group to conceptualize and design efficient and competitive PV systems.
- Collaborate with Business Development to support and achieve business goals.
- Work with supervisor to assign, develop, train, mature, mentor, hire, and manage personnel across projects throughout the program.
- Establish and communicate project and program objectives and expectations to facilitate understanding across the participants.
- Work with peers in Business Development to create and maintain the discipline to safely deliver quality projects on time and within budget with certainty, consistently.
- Instill confidence in the team using good project management principles and practices including communication, planning, coordination, collaboration, control and reporting techniques that inform, create efficiency and add value in a professional participatory manner.
- Measure and report progress as appropriate.
- Check technical accuracy of work and oversee quality management system procedures for the work produced by the group.
- Coordinate engineering activities of unit with other units or organizations.
- Lead a small number of projects as needed.
- B.S. Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (or equivalent) from an ABET accredited college.
- Professional Engineering License Required.
- 10+ years of Engineering and/or construction experience preferred.
- Preference given for experience in Construction, Solar, BESS, Renewable Energy, or Power Generation.
- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local civil regulations.
- Valid driver's license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
- Role includes supporting multiple projects site locations with travel up to 15% of the time.
- Interpersonal skills – Ability to present information to a small group of employees or sub-contractors.
- Effective communication skills (oral, written, listening, presentation) to effectively work with subcontractors and employees.
- Computer literacy. This does not include knowledge of all software to be used, but the ability to learn to use efficiently the software which is in use. Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio).
- Organization skills. Scheduling, planning and prioritization.
- Advanced construction drawing knowledge. Knowledge of drawing layouts, references, notes, and good practices associated with producing and reading construction drawings.
- Ability to follow safety rules without cutting corners. To understand the intent of safety rules, not blindly adhering to the literal words of the rule.
