Overview
City of Aurora is accepting lateral Patrol Officer applications for the Aurora Police Department. The lateral academy (2026-2L) is projected to start May 18, 2026 and end July 17, 2026. The deadline to submit an application is January 23, 2026, at 11:59 pm MST.

Role involves field work in all weather conditions, investigations, evidence collection, and presenting information in court, under supervision by a Sergeant.
Responsibilities- Handle emergency and non-emergency calls for service received by the Communications Center.
- Investigate and determine types of crimes that may have occurred.
- Make sound decisions using knowledge, training, and experience.
- Interact positively with the public and problem-solve complex community issues to reduce repeat calls for service.
- Work as a Patrol Officer within the Aurora Police Department, performing investigations, collecting evidence, and presenting information in court as needed.
- Minimum of three (3) years of sworn peace officer experience in good standing within the four (4) years preceding the application.
- Applicants must be 21 years old by the projected end date of the Academy.
- U.S. citizen or lawfully admitted for permanent residence.
- High school diploma or GED equivalency.
- Starting salary for 2026 lateral officers with 3 years of experience:
Grade IA - $95,107 annually ($45.72 hourly). - On 1-year anniversary: $119,072 annually ($57.25 hourly).
- Starting salary for 2025 lateral officers with 4+ years of experience:
Grade IB - $119,072 annually ($57.25 hourly). - This position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime under FLSA.

- Background checks and drug screening are required for employment; veterans points may apply with documentation (DD214).
