Anticipated Hiring Salary: $93.57 per hour (Part‑Time On‑Call Non‑Benefited Position).

The Relief Judge reports directly to the Presiding Judge on judiciary matters affecting the City of Aurora.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES- Judge sit full‑time as trial judges, enforcing the Aurora City Code of Ordinances and adjudicating traffic, criminal, zoning, and other code violations.
- Follow the rules of procedure enacted by the Council upon recommendation of the Presiding Judge.
- Preside over arraignments, bond determinations, hearings, pre‑trial dispositions, and trials.
- Enter orders for the consequences of proven violations of criminal, traffic, zoning, animal, or other ordinances to ensure city safety and justice for victims of crime.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Juris Doctorate.
- At least 5 years of litigation and/or judicial experience, preferably in criminal law or municipal court experience.
- Knowledge of the Colorado Rules of Evidence, Colorado Rule of Municipal Procedure, and ability to abide by the Colorado Code of Judicial Conduct.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply the Colorado Rules of Evidence and Colorado Municipal Court Rules of Procedure.
- Judicial demeanor, verifiable ethical and moral character, and ability to work with judicial colleagues, staff, and the public.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with municipal court judges, Mayor and City Council, judicial department staff, and senior management throughout the city.
Certifications:
- Active license to practice law in the State of Colorado.
- Essential personnel: may be required to work during local emergencies or disasters declared by the city.
- Physical demands:
Sedentary work, lift a maximum of 10 pounds, occasional lifting, carrying, walking, standing; clear vision, speech communication, hearing. - Work environment:
Primarily courtroom with restricted movement during sessions. - Equipment used:
Standard office equipment including personal computers; may require use of personal vehicle, cell phone, or tools.
