Position: Primary Care Researcher: Open Rank - Associate, Professor

Primary Care Researcher:
Associate, Professor

Institution: University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, School of Medicine – Department of Family Medicine

Location & Schedule

Hybrid – 3 days per week on campus, with additional in‑person meetings as needed.

Job Summary

Associate status open‑rank research faculty focused on health services and/or clinical trials research. Key duties include securing federal and other large grants, leading and mentoring research projects, disseminating findings, providing research mentorship, and assisting with clinical, teaching, or other department activities as circumstances allow.

Responsibilities
  • Secure federal and other large grants and contracts (PI/MPI) in health services and/or clinical trials research.
  • Prepare, edit, and mentor manuscript development, and lead innovative dissemination of results.
  • Collaborate with teams across departments, local organizations, and academic institutions to conduct research and disseminate findings.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clinicians in the Department of Family Medicine, campus, and community settings.
  • Establish and maintain communication, promote collaboration within CU and other organizations.
  • Provide professional development and mentorship to junior faculty and trainees in health services research.
  • Oversee project staff and identify professional development opportunities.
  • May provide clinical services in primary care clinics (determined by department and candidate).
  • May provide teaching in the School of Medicine or other clinical areas (determined by department and candidate).
  • Support hybrid schedule and in‑person meetings as required.
Qualifications
  • Terminal degree in Medicine or Osteopathy (MD or DO) or PhD in behavioral or social sciences, public health, nursing, pharmacy, or related field.
  • At least 5–8 years of experience in primary care research, implementation science, clinical trials, or health services research.
  • Demonstrated track record of extramural funding and research in primary care or practice‑based research settings.
  • Ability to meet School of Medicine criteria for full or associate professor (including credentialing for physicians if applicable).
  • Strong leadership, teamwork, and supervisory skills; ability to work with diverse patient, staff, and community populations.
  • Capacity for flexibility, adaptability, and effective time management across multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and written skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading or participating in primary care, clinical trials, or practice‑based research networks.
  • Experience in practice improvement work in primary care.
  • Strong publication and grant funding record, especially with a focus in practice‑based research networks.
  • Enthusiasm for teaching and mentoring junior faculty and graduate students.

Schedule
