Advanced Practice Provider, Child and Adolescent Instructor Fellow

University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus – Department of Psychiatry. 9-month APP Fellowship for new graduate PMHNPs seeking advanced training in child and adolescent psychiatry. Fellowship occurs at Pediatric Mental Health Institute (PMHI), Children’s Hospital Colorado, Aurora, CO. Fellows rotate through inpatient, partial hospitalization, emergency, eating disorder programs, outpatient clinic, and an elective month. Clinical supervisors are child and adolescent psychiatry physician fellows.

Fellows receive didactics, teach and mentor students, and complete a capstone project.

Responsibilities
  • Perform initial psychiatric diagnostic interviews, develop and follow through treatment plans, and maintain timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Provide evidence-based care and medication monitoring for the pediatric population across inpatient and outpatient programs.
  • Maintain a supervised case load of patients during rotations.
  • Teach, precept, and mentor PMHNP students and other trainees.
  • Collaborate in a multidisciplinary team of physicians, therapists, psychologists, and trainees.
  • Complete a capstone project (quality/process improvement) within PMHI.
Qualifications
  • Graduated from a PMHNP program accredited by CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA.
  • Colorado RN license and ANCC Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) with prescriptive authority.
  • Experience practicing independently in a mental health setting and working with multidisciplinary staff.
  • Preferred:
    Prior experience in a child and adolescent psychiatric setting.
  • Strong clinical skills for brief assessments, psychotherapy interventions, health behavior change, and triage.
  • Excellent problem‑solving, critical thinking, and teamwork abilities.
  • Capacity for flexibility, adaptability, and organization in a fast‑paced environment.
