Attorney – City of Aurora

Base pay range: $85,790.00/yr - $/yr

Sign‑on bonus:
New employees are eligible for a $5,000 bonus, with $2,500 paid on the first payroll and $2,500 after successful completion of a 6‑month introductory period.

• Prosecute City ordinance violations, including negotiations, motions, trial practice, and appeals.
• Conduct legal research and draft legal documents for cases in the Aurora Municipal Court, through the Criminal Division of the City Attorney’s Office.
• Enter into plea negotiations with defendants or their attorneys during pre‑trial conferences.
• Interview victims and witnesses, prepare pleadings, conduct discovery, and draft appellate briefs.
• Provide direct legal service on matters concerning the City Charter, ordinances, regulations, and local court rules.
• Perform various legal projects for the City Attorney’s Office and Municipal Court.

• Graduated from an accredited law school.
• Member, in good standing, of the Colorado Bar Association or has recently taken the Colorado Bar Exam, pending results.
• Experience with negotiations, trials, and appeals involving municipal ordinance violations.
• Knowledge of Colorado Revised Statutes, Aurora Municipal Code, local court rules, and Colorado Municipal Court Rules of Procedure.
• Strong legal research, writing, and courtroom skills.
• Ability to establish professional relationships with City employees, officials, and the public.
• High energy, positive “can‑do” attitude, accountability, and teamwork.
