Consumer Protection Program Specifics
- Supervises the daily operation and administration of the Consumer Protection program including food, vector, body art, and general EH related complaints.
- Initiates interaction with the Division of Environmental Health and Sustainability (CDPHE) to resolve interpretations in regulations.
The Environmental Health (EH) Supervisor ensures compliance with EH laws, rules, and regulations as stipulated by the County Health Department and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE). This role has day-to-day supervisory accountabilities for assigned positions, employees, and program operational activities.
Supervisor- Effectively supervises Program personnel, including the assignment and review of individual work, team projects, and program process. Assists in the selection and hiring of Program staff. Coaches, mentors, and evaluates professional staff performance in a productive, positive manner; and supports skills, personal and career development within the team. Implements disciplinary corrective actions, when necessary, in conjunction with the Environmental Health Manager and Human Resources.
- Oversees staff who conduct inspections, plan reviews, and permitting of regulated program activities.
- Develops and conducts training programs for staff and educational programs for community outreach.
- Instructs staff in the methods, techniques, and procedures utilized in investigation, analysis, evaluation, application, and enforcement of applicable standards.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with Program staff, Department teams, and other Arapahoe County employees, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and members of the community.
- In coordination with Human Resources, position acts with compliance of County’s guidelines for employees.
- Supervises the daily operation and administration of the program.
- Develops, evaluates, interprets, and maintains standard operating procedures for the applicable program. In coordination with the EH Manager, recommends process improvements and assists with implementation actions. Provides supervision and guidance on procedures for program staff, regulated industry, and members of the public.
- May support staff with inspections, plan reviews, permitting and other program activities. Reviews inspection and investigation reports to ensure overall quality.
- Collaborates and conducts outreach with local community groups, local health departments, and governmental agencies in applicable program matters and to provide technical program information and direction to interpret laws, regulations, and policies. Represents the Department in professional organizations and events.
- Proficiently conducts specialized programs, projects, and research that supports the program.
- Maintains working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations and procedures, and enforcement and legal processes and procedures related to the program. Oversees administrative processes to ensure compliance with regulations and procedures.
- Initiates and monitors pending enforcement actions taken by the Department. Supervises and participates in gathering evidence and case preparation, testifies at hearings, and other proceedings.
- Participates in tracking legislative bills related to the program. Participates in appropriate local and state policy and regulatory stakeholder processes.
- Assists in the development and supervision of the program budget. Recommends program expenditures. Provides oversight of fiscal/budgetary issues and well as programmatic details in administration of grants and/or contracts associated with the program. Research grants to support targeted funding opportunities.
- Incorporates accessibility, equity, and environmental justice concepts into Environmental Health programs and services.
- Responds, as required, to support public health emergencies, incidents, and events. Employee participates in all exercises and drills on emergency preparedness and response, as required. Completes trainings identified as…
