The Project Manager III serves as a senior leader responsible for the full life-cycle delivery of high-voltage utility infrastructure projects, including transmission, distribution, and substation construction. This role provides advanced project leadership, oversees multiple project managers, and ensures execution excellence across schedule, budget, safety, quality, and customer expectations. This position requires frequent travel to project sites across Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, and other assigned locations.
Key Responsibilities Senior Leadership & Team Development- Provide oversight, coaching, and performance management for Project Manager II, Project Manager I, and Assistant Project Manager staff
- Develop and mentor project teams through structured training, feedback, and skill-building opportunities
- Set expectations for project execution standards and ensure consistency across all levels
- Support professional growth by identifying development paths, strengthening technical capability, and ensuring readiness for future roles
- Lead by example in decision-making, communication, and accountability
- Manage multiple complex high-voltage projects simultaneously with ownership of schedule, budget, safety, and quality outcomes
- Lead advanced project planning efforts including work sequencing, staffing strategy, risk mitigation, and milestone development
- Ensure effective coordination across field crews, subcontractors, internal departments, and client teams
- Drive implementation of project controls, document management, cost forecasting, and progress reporting
- Support project scope development, construction strategies, and resource planning for transmission, distribution, and substation work
- Conduct detailed reviews of project specifications, drawings, and contract requirements
- Serve as a primary point of contact for customers, utilities, and engineering partners on all project-related matters
- Resolve escalated technical and commercial issues and support PM staff in resolution pathways
- Lead preparation and negotiation of change orders, claims, and cost adjustments
- Review project performance, analyze cost metrics, forecast trends, and maintain real-time project controls
- Manage cost, financial reporting, billing workflows, and job-cost tracking
- Oversee monthly financial reviews, forecasts, and project status reports prepared by PM II, PM I, and APM teams
- Ensure billing accuracy, timely invoicing, and effective payment follow-up
- Champion safety expectations and embed safety planning into all phases of project execution
- Support safety teams with risk assessments, job hazard reviews, and compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, quality workmanship, and proactive problem-solving
- Regularly visit project sites to support teams, engage with customers, identify risks, and maintain strong field presence
- Address on-site challenges quickly and guide project teams through complex field conditions
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field
- OR at least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in utility or civil-construction sectors
- Significant experience leading and developing PM II, PM I, and APM-level staff
- Demonstrated success delivering high-voltage powerline projects (transmission, distribution, substations)
- Advanced leadership, coaching, and team-building capabilities
- Strong communication skills with the ability to guide teams, engage clients, and present effectively
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Hands-on experience with Eco Sys for project controls, cost reporting, and forecasting
- Hands-on experience with JD Edwards for financial workflows, job-cost structures, and billing
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schedules, and construction documentation
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities across dynamic project environments
