Position: Instructor – Pediatric APP
Job Summary:
- Serve as a first assistant in the operating room for pediatric neurosurgery procedures.
- Admit patients to the hospital, perform history and physical exam, order labs, diagnostic studies, radiology tests, and follow up to formulate treatment plans.
- Provide some night/weekend service responsibility.
- Perform emergent and non‑emergent procedures in the ICU with hospital privilege after demonstrated competency and according to standardized protocols.
- Respond efficiently to urgent/emergent situations following established protocols, remain calm, inform appropriate persons, and document events.
- Assist with transfer orders, discharge to outside facilities and associated documentation.
- Maintain communication with other health care providers and departments to ensure operational efficiency and continuity of care (e.g., handoffs, sign‑out, transfer summaries).
- Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for own professional practice.
- Function as a clinical leader and educator in collaboration with physicians, nurses and other team members.
- Demonstrate knowledge of legal issues, including patient confidentiality and risk management.
- Participate in research activities as requested.
- Demonstrate a service philosophy in all interactions with patients, families, and the health care team.
- Show proficiency in computers and telecommunication modalities to document, track, and convey information.
- Attend weekly specialty conferences as permissible with clinical schedule.
- Attend conferences, board review courses, boot camps and other professional development both in‑state and out‑of‑state.
- Participate in quality and safety improvement projects as requested.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a master’s degree in Advanced Practice Nursing (Acute Care NP) or graduate of an accredited program in Physician Assistant Studies.
- Current active license in Colorado as an Advanced Practice Nurse or Physician Assistant with prescriptive authority.
- Credentialed as an APN or PA by the appropriate national certifying body.
- Two years of experience in inpatient or intensive care.
- Experience or advanced training in a surgical subspecialty.
- Ability to learn operative techniques.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to care for high‑acuity, high‑complexity patients.
- Desire to learn and perform procedures appropriate in the pediatric neurosurgery setting.
- Ability to work individually and as a team within an APP/Physician/Resident model.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Additional experience in inpatient or ICU settings beyond the minimum two years.
- Previous surgical first‑assistant experience or advanced procedural training.
