Job SummaryKey Responsibilities:
- Independently performing age‑appropriate history and physical examinations for complex acute, critical, and chronically ill patients
- Provide largely outpatient services with some inpatient medical care at UCHealth Highlands Ranch Hospital for the University of Colorado Division of Gastroenterology
- Support inpatient/consult service with care for hospitalized patients including pancreaticobiliary disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, acute nausea/vomiting, etc.
- See new consults, discuss with attending physicians, follow up after procedures, arrange discharge medication, and collaborate with physician colleagues on coordination of care
- Coordinate, triage, and organize patient flow, follow‑up contact, and test result review
- Accurate and efficient documentation in EPIC system
- Request outside diagnostic tests and pathology/cytology as needed
- Order and interpret labs or diagnostic tests prior to multidisciplinary review
- Prescribe medications as needed, including pre‑procedure medications
- Conduct peer‑to‑peer review or write medical necessity letters with insurance companies for pre‑authorization of tests as appropriate
- Communicate with referring physicians regarding patient referrals
- Send patient letters to referring physicians using EPIC system
- Independently see patients in follow‑up as needed
- Collaborate with team members to finalize patient plans and assist with ordering tests and referrals as needed
- Contact referring physicians/PCPs for other medical issues and refer to appropriate specialty/provider as needed
- Facilitate staff, patient, and family decision‑making by providing educational tools
- Provide patients with hospital resources as needed
- Track patient outcomes/data
- Comply with hospital protocols and standards
- Attend departmental meetings regularly
- Work onsite primarily in the attached medical office building at Highlands Ranch Hospital and occasionally on inpatient side

Minimum Qualifications:
- MSN required from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program (NP) or graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program (PA)
- Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licensure by a national professional organization (NP)
- Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Colorado (NP)
- Admission to the Advanced Practice Registry of the Colorado Board of Nursing (NP)
- Prescriptive authority required (NP)
- Current ACLS certification (NP)
- Current Physician Assistant licensure in the state of Colorado (PA)
- Prescriptive authority (PA)
- Two or more years of experience in practice as a PA (PA)
- Current ACLS certification (PA)
- Preferred: DNP for NP
- Three or more years of experience in Gastroenterology (both NP and PA)
- Three or more years of inpatient experience
- Three or more years of outpatient experience
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of professional medical practice for patient care in gastroenterology clinic
- Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations, and procedures to administer patient care
- Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment
- Skill in applying and modifying principles, methods, and techniques of medicine to provide ongoing patient care
- Skill in taking medical history, assessing condition, and interpreting findings
- Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence
