DescriptionThe Division of GI, Trauma and Endocrine Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine has a full‑time faculty position available for a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA). Under the direction of the full‑time faculty or designee, the position provides inpatient and outpatient medical care services at the University of Colorado Hospital (UCH).
The candidate will be expected to provide independent clinical services for general surgery patients at UCH, including colorectal surgery patients. Responsibilities include rounding, writing orders, patient assessment, patient education, care coordination, disease management, discharge planning, clinic care, triage of phone calls, emails, faxes, post‑operative care, follow‑up on referrals and diagnostic tests, and collaboration with surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, intensivists, hospital staff, referring physicians, and primary care providers.
The NP/PA will also provide cross‑coverage clinical care on different services as needed and work closely with surgical house staff.

- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a master’s degree in nursing and/or a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Current license to practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse and/or Physician Assistant with prescriptive privileges or eligible for licensure.
- Meets and maintains specific requirements of the Nursing Credential Review Board (Nurse Practitioner) and the Medical Review Board (Physician Assistant).
- Two years of experience in general surgery, trauma, or critical care setting.
- Experience with colorectal surgery patients.
- Experience with ostomy care and ostomy patients.
