Job Description

The Clinical Manager oversees the daily operations of a direct patient care department, ensuring adherence to policies, procedures, and quality standards. This role provides clinical leadership, guiding staff in delivering developmentally appropriate care and evaluating outcomes. The Clinical Manager supports quality and safety initiatives, contributes to organizational goals, and drives improvements in healthcare performance and patient experience. In collaboration with other healthcare leaders, the Clinical Manager fosters professional development, coaches for performance, and cultivates a positive environment for both team members and patients/families.

The Labor and Delivery department at the Colorado Fetal Care Center (CFCC) at Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) offers care for perinatal conditions in mothers with a wide range of fetal anomalies. Located on the Anschutz Medical Campus, CFCC is one of the largest and most technologically advanced fetal care centers in the country. Our team of specialized MDs, anesthesiologists, RNs, surgical technicians, and sonographers provide a deep level of experience for rare and complex conditions.

As a nurse on our team, you will collaborate regularly with maternal fetal medicine specialists and neonatologists to care for families facing rare diagnoses such as congenital diaphragmatic hernia, bladder outlet obstruction, twin-to-twin transfusion, and myelomeningocele. Specialized interventions in our NICU include ECMO, therapeutic hypothermia, and inhaled nitric oxide.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop and communicate the department's strategic plan and annual goals, aligning team priorities with organizational objectives to enhance clinical practice, quality of care, and professional growth.
  • Select, train, and evaluate department staff, creating a supportive environment that promotes development, engagement, and high performance.
  • Make decisions on hiring, promotions, disciplinary actions, and terminations in coordination with Associate Clinical Managers.
  • Develop departmental budget recommendations and monitor expenditures to support cost‑effective operations.
  • Direct and manage daily departmental operations, ensuring adherence to policies, procedures, and regulatory standards. Use evidence‑based practice to develop and maintain guidelines for safe, effective care.
  • Provide clinical expertise, guiding team members in delivering developmentally appropriate care and evaluating outcomes for infants and children with complex health needs.
  • Oversee staff and financial resource allocation, adjusting as needed to meet patient care demands while maintaining budget compliance.
  • Establish department performance metrics and collaborate with Associate Clinical Managers to achieve clinical, operational, and developmental goals. Identify and act on opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Resolve escalated, complex, or sensitive patient/family issues and operational concerns, making inclusive, data‑informed decisions that address root causes.
  • Interpret and enforce quality and safety standards, hospital policies, and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance and promote best practices.
  • Lead and support a culture of clinical inquiry by mentoring team members on practice‑based research and quality improvement projects.
  • Represent the department in senior leadership and interdepartmental meetings, fostering collaboration across teams and participating in organizational committees.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) required. Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Master’s in a health‑related field required.
  • Three years of clinical experience and two years of nursing leadership experience in supervision, leading clinical practice projects, serving as a charge nurse or house supervisor, and/or precepting. Previous Labor and Delivery experience strongly preferred.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • BLS/CPR from the American Heart Association with at least 6 months before expiration required upon hire.
