The candidate is expected to take a major role in the Stansbury laboratory focusing on the AAI grant entitled "Multimaterial 3D print processing of antimicrobial and antifungal dental prosthetics". S/he will have expertise in organic/polymer synthesis and characterization as well as photopolymerization and ideally 3D printing. The Research Associate position will independently carry out various responsibilities including material synthesis, formulation and testing to assist in the development of new materials and experimental designs that advance a fundamental understanding of physical and mechanical performance of materials.
The responsibilities will also extend to problem solving directed to practical implementation of the experimental work. They will conduct reaction kinetic studies in advance of photo-based 3D vat and inkjet printing of specimens for the physical/mechanical testing of the resins and polymer-based materials developed in the project. They will carry out the impact testing and fracture toughness measurements as well as assist with the dynamic mechanical analysis studies and mechanical testing of photocured and 3D printed polymeric materials developed here.
The Research Associate will be responsible for all managerial functions of the Stansbury lab. As lab manager S/he will be responsible for tracking inventory and all purchasing, equipment maintenance, serve as the Lab Safety Officer and ensure EHS compliance, develop lab safety protocols, lead research endeavors under the consultation of the PI, and supervise laboratory personnel including training and performance.
The Research Associate is expected to work in close association with the AAI multidisciplinary team of researchers, clinicians, technicians and students on the Anschutz and Boulder campuses. S/he will be expected to present regular research-in-progress lectures to the AAI team and assist in preparing publications, progress reports and presentations. S/he will be responsible for maintaining laboratory databases, contribute to laboratory compliance and overall goals of the project.
Key Responsibilities- Author and / or contribute to writing peer-reviewed publications and/or grant applications.
- Supervise all laboratory personnel, conduct performance evaluations and oversee experimental work conducted by personnel.
- Serve as Safety Officer of the Craniofacial Biology laboratories located in RC1 North.
- Track practical implementation of experiments, problem solve experimental issues independently and maintain records to review with PI.
- Prepare milestone reports and deliver regular presentations to the multi-disciplinary AAI Team.
- Lead the Stansbury Lab's materials processing, mechanics of materials, and the development of advanced experimental materials characterization techniques.
Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Minimum Qualifications:
* Education:
PhD, MD, or PhD/MD preferably in chemistry, material science or related field.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proven experience and familiarity with material synthesis, formulation and testing.
- Background in photo-based 3D vat and inkjet printing of dental materials.
- Proven experience and familiarity with polymer-based materials and resins.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to analyze, interpret, and evaluate a broad range of rules, and regulations in order to exercise good judgment in applying them to sponsored research.
