Research Associate Job Summary
The candidate is expected to take a major role in the Stansbury laboratory focusing on the AAI grant entitled "Multimaterial 3D print processing of antimicrobial and antifungal dental prosthetics". This position will independently carry out various responsibilities including material synthesis, formulation and testing to assist in the development of new materials and experimental designs that advance a fundamental understanding of physical and mechanical performance of materials.
The responsibilities also extend to problem solving directed to practical implementation of the experimental work, reaction kinetic studies in advance of photo‑based 3D vat and inkjet printing of specimens, and mechanical testing of the resins and polymer‑based materials developed in the project.
The Research Associate will also serve as the lab manager of the Stansbury lab, responsible for inventory tracking and purchasing, equipment maintenance, serving as the Lab Safety Officer and ensuring EHS compliance, developing lab safety protocols, leading research endeavors, and supervising laboratory personnel including training and performance.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise all laboratory personnel, conduct performance evaluations and oversee experimental work conducted by personnel.
- Serve as Safety Officer of the Craniofacial Biology laboratories located in RC1 North.
- Track practical implementation of experiments, problem solve experimental issues independently, and maintain records for review with the PI.
- Prepare milestone reports and deliver regular presentations to the multi‑disciplinary AAI Team.
- Lead the Stansbury Lab’s materials processing, mechanics of materials, and the development of advanced experimental materials characterization techniques.
- Manage lab inventory, purchasing, equipment maintenance, EHS compliance and safety protocols.
- Assist in preparing publications, progress reports, and presentations; maintain laboratory databases and contribute to laboratory compliance and overall project goals.
- Minimum Qualifications: PhD, MD, or PhD/MD preferably in chemistry, material science or a related field.
- Preferred Qualifications: Proven experience with material synthesis, formulation and testing; background in photo‑based 3D vat and inkjet printing of dental materials; experience with polymer‑based materials and resins.
- Ability to analyze, interpret, and evaluate a broad range of rules, regulations, and policies in order to exercise good judgment in sponsored research.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to prepare and deliver public presentations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels of the institution.
- Knowledge of professional standards, concepts and practices related to research.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information.
- Demonstrated initiative and collaboration that positively impacts team performance.
