The job duties include:
- Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, or compact earth to grade specifications, using shovels and other equipment.
- Load and unload materials, machinery, and tools; distribute to appropriate locations, according to project plans.
- Signal equipment operators to facilitate movement of equipment.
- May operate light equipment, air compressors, pneumatic air tools, and other equipment as necessary.
- Operate motor vehicles during travel to/from jobsites.
The requirements and qualifications include:
- Requires limited knowledge of techniques, tools and equipment.
- Must have understanding of the hazards and precautions of the trade.
- Positive attitude, hard work ethic, and a priority for safety.
- Climb into and out of equipment (trucks, cars, backhoes, trenchers, etc.)
- Operate or work around heavy equipment and machinery
- Work in congested or remote areas
- Work in extreme weather conditions depending on geographical location (below freezing to over 100 degrees and in very windy conditions)
- Hours/Schedules are determined based on Region and Customer Needs and in compliance with any regulations; on average – must be able to perform the above for at least 8 hours per day 5 days per week. Weekend work/Overtime is dependent on Work Load.
- Performs general construction work under direction of Foreman/Supervisor
The physical demands include:
- Climb up and down ladders, machinery, and other objects.
- Lift, dig and concentrate on a specific task.
- Push, pull, reach, and frequently carry objects such as tools, materials and equipment weighing up to 75 lbs.
- Load and unload tools and equipment on truck.
- Coordinate movement of eyes, hands, fingers, and feet.
- Work at different heights.
- All work is performed at remote locations; driving and sitting are required.
- All work is outdoors, subject to inclement weather conditions.
