As the Field Construction Safety Manager for Waubonsee Development (ATMI’s field erection division), you will play a key role in supporting crews who bring massive precast structures to life. This role is hands‑on and highly visible. You will be out in the field, working alongside experienced erection teams, crane operators, riggers, and project leaders to ensure every jobsite is safe, compliant, and well‑coordinated.

Summary

The Field Construction Safety Manager oversees jobsite safety practices and compliance for Waubonsee Development’s precast erection operations across Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin. This position ensures that all field activities follow OSHA standards, project‑specific safety plans, and company safety procedures. The role includes conducting site audits, delivering safety training, assisting with job hazard analyses and lift planning, and working closely with field leaders to identify and resolve safety risks.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular field safety audits and site visits to ensure crews are following safety expectations
  • Support erection activities including crane setup, rigging, signaling, bracing, and safe access planning
  • Prepare and maintain site‑specific safety plans, daily hazard assessments, and safety documentation
  • Lead safety orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing safety training for field teams
  • Identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions before work begins
  • Investigate incidents and near misses, lead root cause analysis, and document corrective actions
  • Work closely with superintendents, foremen, and general contractors to align on jobsite safety requirements
  • Assist with developing and improving safety procedures that support field erection best practices
  • Maintain safety‑related certifications, logs, inspection records, and compliance documentation
  • Monitor conditions during crane and rigging operations to ensure safe lifting practices
  • Support PCI, NPCA, and internal quality and safety compliance measures
  • Promote a culture of safety that is proactive, positive, and built on clear communication
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • OSHA 30 Hour Construction Certification
  • Experience in field construction safety, ideally in precast, steel erection, heavy industrial, or crane‑supported construction
  • Strong knowledge of jobsite hazard identification, fall protection, rigging, and lift planning
  • Ability to read plans, erection drawings, and site safety documentation
  • Strong communication and coaching skills, especially when working with field crews
  • Willingness to travel weekly across IL, IN, and WI
  • Excellent recordkeeping, documentation, and organizational skills
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to work in changing outdoor conditions
Preferred But Not Required
  • Qualified Rigger/Signal person certification
  • Fall Protection Competent Person training
  • NCCCO or relevant rigging, crane, or equipment‑related safety credentials
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Safety, or related field
Environment and

Physical Requirements
  • Regularly works outdoors on active construction sites with exposure to weather, height, noise, and heavy equipment
  • Must be able to walk uneven terrain, climb ladders, and stand for extended periods
  • Occasional lifting of materials, tools, or equipment up to 50 lbs
  • Travel approximately 40% of the time across job sites in IL, IN, and WI
