An experienced technician who performs Quality Audits on completed locating tickets and is responsible for a variety of tasks related to utility protection for multiple utility clients. The Watch and Protect technician oversees contractors digging on and around utility facilities, monitors excavations, and helps prevent damage to critical infrastructure.
Responsibilities- Perform Quality Audits:
On‑site audits of completed work should include inspection of locate marks and marking standards for accuracy; e‑Sketch documentation; billing and status codes used; screen capture and photo documentation review; scope of the ticket’s work area completed. Focus on accuracy and marking standards while performing the audit. Any serious concerns found during audits should be communicated to the supervisor immediately and addressed on‑site. - Watch & Protect:
Compare real‑world conditions to record documentation to identify errors and omissions; verify location of all client facilities within specified dig extents; watch and protect client facilities within a given area as directed by the client; understand contractor’s means and methods for subsurface installations; monitor and provide surveillance of critical infrastructure where excavations are known to be taking place or will be taking place soon;
contact excavators and schedule monitoring; locate and mark underground facilities using industry tools and methods; perform ticket audits to ensure locators accurately locate facilities and follow proper marking procedures. - Eligibility:
Candidates must complete a background check and a DOT drug test. Company policy requires no violations within the last five years. All employees are assigned proper technology and work vehicles to perform work‑related duties.
- High school diploma or GED certificate.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in the locating industry.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to read and interpret prints at a high level.
- Multiple years of locating and pipeline technician experience.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work smoothly with citizens, company, contractor representatives, and customers.
- Good organizational skills to handle many varied tasks at once.
- Knowledge and understanding of safe worksite practices.
- Experience with construction and installation of below‑grade infrastructure and basic maintenance of industry standard locating equipment.
- Experience using existing utility standard designs.
- Experience with complex urban underground utility infrastructure and serving as a firm/client liaison.
- Experience reviewing design drawings created by others.
- Capable of moving about on construction work sites, public streets, and parkways.
- Capable of lifting up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, or sit for extended periods.
- Hand‑eye coordination necessary to operate computers and various measurement, locating, and testing instruments.

- Work safely outside in all weather conditions year‑round.
- Occasionally work in excavation areas and roadways.
- Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration.
- The noise level in the work environment is occasionally moderate to loud.
Full‑time (hourly); pay varies based on experience.

All employees are eligible to receive company benefits after maintaining an average of 30 hours worked per week.
