E1 Lead Teacher

Fox Valley Montessori School is seeking a certified Lead Elementary 1 Teacher to join our team. This individual will work collaboratively with the FVMS staff to prepare and uphold the Elementary 1 environment that is designed to be safe, resourceful, and supportive of the children as developing individuals. We are looking for someone who is collaborative, enthusiastic, flexible, and is ready to be an active member of a team that strives to guide children through their learning while upholding the Montessori philosophy in our curriculum.

Start date is negotiable.

Fox Valley Montessori School is an AMS Accredited school which includes a DCFS licensed Toddler program and is recognized as a Non-Public School by Illinois State Board of Education. Our program serves students from age 15 months through 12 years old. FVMS has been serving the Fox Valley area for over 50 years. The children, families, and faculty work closely to create an unparalleled Montessori experience, providing the students with the joy of self-discovery.

The school is located in Aurora, occupying a spacious campus complete with a multi-purpose gymnasium.

• Upholds an environment that is safe and inclusive for all learners and team members
• Prepares and maintains a physical environment that is aligned with expectations established for the Montessori Elementary level
• Guides learners through the program curriculum using the Montessori practices to support their social, emotional, and physical needs
• Creates plans to guide learners through the scope and sequence of the program
• Provides opportunities for further development for all learners
• Works collaboratively with the Elementary team to uphold a positive environment to support to the learners
• Communicates clear expectations to the learners and team members
• Holds responsibility for the safety and physical well-being of learners at all times
• Models integrity, curiosity, responsibility, creativity, and respect for all persons he/she comes in contact with in the scope of the position
• Models respect, curiosity, and appreciation for racial, cultural, and gender issues and diversity
• Phrases directives positively when speaking with learners
• Works with individuals, small groups of learners, and the whole group when appropriate
• Uses appropriate and comprehensive methods to assess the development level of each learner
• Maintains accessible written records of all observations and up-to-date assessment of developmental and academic progress and challenges for each learner
• Seeks out appropriate resources when needed in order to advocate for the physical, cognitive, and emotional needs of each learner
• Works to build and maintain collaborative relationships with parents through honest, respectful, and timely communication
• Keeps open communication with the Executive Director regarding classroom plans and needs
• Reports, records, and communicates using the proper procedures and forms
• Complies with and abides by all policies and procedures of Fox Valley Montessori School, and abides by all state and federal requirements, laws, statutes, and regulations
• Maintains confidentiality of learner and family information
• Performs such duties and responsibilities as assigned from time to time by the Executive Director

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
• AMS or MACTE Montessori Credential
• Previous experience as a Lead Teacher preferred
• Must be able to pass a routine criminal background check and state fingerprinting
• Must be able to maintain regular and routine attendance during the hours expected
