SUMMARY
The Resident Automation Technician Lead is responsible for supporting the customer on all automation-related topics and supervising the day-to-day operations of a TGW resident technician team stationed at one of TGW's customer facilities. The Resident Automation Technician Lead acts as a key liaison between the customer and TGW on automation and personnel matters. In addition to customer service and leadership skills, this role requires thorough knowledge of electrical, mechanical, controls automation, and software support.
DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as the point person between the supported facility and assigned Lifetime Services team for automation and personnel-related topics.
- Assist with onsite responsibilities such as managing incidents, identifying training needs, coordinating shift work, approving timecards, responding to time-off requests, attending customer meetings, and other tasks as directed.
- Coordinate work orders and oversee maintenance activities pertaining to the automated equipment onsite, including conveyors, cranes, shuttles, scale checks, and carton-opening systems.
- Provide hands‑on assistance with such maintenance activities, lead efforts to troubleshoot and resolve issues requiring in-depth technical knowledge, and communicate maintenance activities to the customer as needed.
- Resolve customer equipment issues as quickly and practically as possible. Perform root cause analyses and drive issues to resolution.
- Monitor and maintain the site spare parts inventory, and / or work closely with customer to maintain inventory upon request.
- Drive continuous improvement efforts to optimize automation efficiency and performance in delivery of contracted KPIs.
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety guidelines, requirements, procedures, and regulations.
- Collaborate with the broader TGW Lifetime Services team to track, document, and communicate issues and lessons learned.
- Respond to after‑hours inquiries as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Associate degree or Technical Certificate in Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
ExperienceSeveral years of demonstrated experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing equipment in industrial, warehousing / distribution, or related environments.
Skills & Abilities- Demonstrated knowledge of electromechanical troubleshooting and repair of material-handling conveyors, AS / RS, and shuttle systems.
- Previous experience holding formal or informal leadership roles.
- Demonstrated leadership ability and experience handling high‑stress scenarios requiring advanced interpersonal skills and conflict resolution skills.
- Familiarity with Human Machine Interface (HMI) and / or Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) experience.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings for use in diagnostics.
- Knowledge of Profibus and Profinet.
- Excellent communication skills and customer service skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, etc.)
- Ability to travel up to 15%.
- PLC programming and troubleshooting knowledge preferred.
- Requires ability to walk, climb, stand, carry materials, stoop, kneel, bend, stretch, push and pull
- Must be able to coordinate movement of several parts of the body, such as arms and legs, while the body is moving
- Must be able to keep or regain the body's balance or stay upright when in an unstable position
- Must be able to use hands to handle, control, feel, grasp, move and / or assemble objects, tools or controls
- Must be able to be physically active and use muscles for extended periods without getting tired or out of breath
- Requires prolonged period of standing and walking
- Must be able to climb a 70 foot fixed ladder (ladder has rest points every
10ft) - Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; maximum unassisted lift = 50 lbs; average lift less than 20 lbs
- Must be able to adjust body movements or equipment controls to keep pace with speed changes of moving objects
