Job DescriptionThe Disaster Engineering Specialist conducts site inspections to validate and record infrastructure damage. Responsibilities include taking photographs, making site sketches, and writing detailed damage descriptions. The specialist develops and reviews scopes of work and cost estimates, including code and standard requirements. The position reviews and analyzes engineering reports, designs, and as‑built plans, makes recommendations regarding claim eligibility, and develops or evaluates hazard mitigation proposals and benefit‑cost analyses.
The specialist works with applicants to prioritize their projects, facilitates applicant meetings throughout the program delivery and recovery stages, and communicates the final determination to the applicants. The role provides analyses and updates reports, participates in status update meetings with FEMA, and identifies the need for technical specialists. Coordination of basic to moderately complex site inspections assists the FEMA Public Assistance grant delivery process.
Additional duties as assigned.

- Work with applicants to prioritize projects and facilitate meetings.
- Communicate final determinations to applicants.
- Provide analyses, update reports, and participate in status update meetings with FEMA.
- Identify the need for technical specialists.
- Coordinate basic to moderately complex site inspections for FEMA Public Assistance grant delivery.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- 5 years of in‑field experience or 2 years of in‑field experience with a professional registration.
- Domestic travel required.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and obtain a FEMA Badge (Public Trust).
- Working knowledge of design applications and technical knowledge.
- Knowledge of construction materials technologies and methodologies.
- Strong organizational skills to balance and prioritize work.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to change quickly and remain flexible.

Pay Range Minimum$33.60.
Pay Range Maximum$67.20.
Additional CompensationAll bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
Work Location OptionsSuccessful candidate will be required to work in office and field locations as needed.
