Medical Technologist & Lab Technician, Clinical Research

Responsibilities- Perform waived, moderate, or highly complex tests authorized by CLIA and listed under 42 CFR 493.1425 and 493.1495, possessing a degree of skill commensurate with education, training, or experience.
- Adhere to the laboratory’s procedures for collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
- Follow laboratory quality control policies and document all corrective actions when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
- Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance and either correct them or immediately notify your supervisor, Director, or Medical Director.
- Perform a wide variety of laboratory procedures requiring independent judgment using both manual and automated methods in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and any other discipline introduced into the laboratory.
- Perform and document instrument and equipment maintenance as needed (daily, weekly, monthly, or otherwise).
- Review the accuracy of patient results before releasing or reporting.
- Recognize age‑specific differences in expected results for newborns to geriatrics.
- Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples and that collaboration with other laboratories is prohibited before reporting results to agencies.
- May be required to perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups from newborn to geriatrics.
- Assist in developing and maintaining laboratory policies and procedures.
- Adhere to all department and hospital policies related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.
- When a supervisor is absent, may act as Lead Technician, responsible for the section or department during the shift.
- May have responsibilities related to LIS and/or POCT.
- Other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager or director.
- ASCP certification or equivalent preferred.
- One year of hospital laboratory work experience preferred, but not required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological, health science, or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or other education stated in CLIA (42 CFR 493.1423).
- Current and valid state license if required by the state where the laboratory is located.

Pay TransparencyCompetitive compensation and benefits. Estimated wage range: $26.40 to $38.24 per hour, depending on skill set, experience, education, credentials, and licensure.
