Rush Copley Medical Center is seeking an Infection Preventionist to manage infection prevention, surveillance, and control activities throughout the facility. The candidate will coordinate investigations of patient, staff, or visitor infections and/or suspected exposures, reporting findings to appropriate internal personnel, departments, and external agencies.

The role collaborates with the Director of Quality & Regulatory Affairs and the Rush System Infection Prevention team to reduce healthcare‑associated infection risk, ensuring the safety and health of all personnel. Responsibilities include serving as a surveillance officer, resource and educational consultant on infections and communicable disease prevention, overseeing infectious disease databases, validating data against specification manuals for infectious disease report measure sets, and submitting to approved vendors.

The Infection Preventionist must remain abreast of accreditation and governmental requirements related to infection prevention, facilitating performance improvement initiatives and acting as a lead influencer of best practices.

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required, with a strong background in clinical microbiology or a related clinical healthcare field, and a minimum of 5 years experience in infection control practices.
• Board Certification in “Infection Prevention and Control” by the Certifying Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology preferred, or achievement of certification within 1 year of hire.
• Previous experience managing an infection control program, leadership, or influential role preferred.
• Working knowledge of statistical data collection and interpretation required.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to prioritize tasks is necessary.
