The Aurora Public Library District is seeking a strategic and collaborative Human Resources Director to lead our people initiatives, strengthen organizational culture, and support employee success. As a member of the leadership team, this role provides an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on our employees, our organization, and the community we serve. Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a member of the Executive Team, contributing to library vision, strategic planning, and workforce planning.
  • Provide expert guidance to ensure that decisions support a professional and inclusive environment.
  • Develop and maintain effective labor/management partnerships, serve as a member of the bargaining team, and oversee administration and interpretation of the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Create initiatives to strengthen organizational culture, employee engagement, workforce effectiveness, and leadership capacity.
  • Provide coaching, consultation and support to managers and supervisors on performance management and workplace issues.
  • Oversee investigations; recommend and review employment decisions to ensure consistency, fairness and legal compliance.
  • Create and support a collaborative, inclusive environment and ensure equitable access to resources and opportunities for all staff.
  • Ensure policies, practices and procedures comply with employment laws, regulations and labor agreements.
  • Provide oversight of recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, leave management, compensation, payroll and HR systems.
  • Manage departmental resources and ensure efficient HR service delivery across the library.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or related work experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive HR leadership experience, preferably in a public library, municipal or nonprofit setting.
  • Significant experience in labor relations, collective bargaining negotiations, grievance administration, and contract interpretation/administration.
  • Experience with HRIS systems and in-house payroll processing.
  • Proven leadership and supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, access, and community engagement.
  • Experience developing policies, development programs, and workforce strategies.
  • Experience leading workplace investigations and employee relations matters.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage effectively with staff, trustees, community members, and other stakeholders.
Additional Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in human resources and/or SPHR, SHRM-SCP, CLRP certification.
  • Exceptional business judgement, making informed, sound, and strategic decisions.
  • Active involvement in professional human resources and/or labor relations associations.
  • Spanish speaking skills a plus.
